Dramatic lighting has the power to transform an ordinary scene into one charged with emotion. That is what Christine Fortner seeks when selecting her subject matter. Her inspiration often comes from commonplace things, like chaotic tree branches, windswept trees, or a glass jar filled with flowers.

If the lighting is right, that becomes her essential starting points ing co mposite, she aims to simplify stopes, as possible.

Recently, she has been exploring the wide variety of textures achievable with acrylic paint, from thin washes and stenciled patterns to thick, impasto strokes.

Christine spent most of her adult life in Anchorage, Alaska, where she taught watercolor painting for 20 years and conducted workshops throughout the state. Her paintings have been accepted into numerous local and national exhibitions and have been published in several art books and magazines, including Acrylic Works 3: Celebrating Texture. In 2017, she was honored with an Art Residency in Juneau, sponsored by the State of Alaska. Her work is featured in many private and public collections, including the Art Museum of Eastern Idaho and the Anchorage Museum.
