Jacque Shayne

Mixed Media

Mixed media is the perfect artistic expression for Jacque Shayne, who loves the challenge of combining a variety of materials and processes. She is inspired by the natural world and random, simple things she sees every day.  A particular shape or texture can capture her attention and compel her to pick up something on a trail, on the beach or pull something cool from the recycle bin to save for repurposing. She loves thinking about an object’s potential and how it might be incorporated to enhance her artwork. Her sculptures and wall art have included rusty metal, shipping containers, scrap wood and items discarded by nature herself, such as twigs, seed pods, leaves, stones, shells and feathers.

As she works toward a final composition, Jacque decides it is done only when she has an “aaaahh moment,” a felt sense of it being “just right.” Until then, she plays around with different ideas, experiments with different colors, patterns and configurations, while taking photos of the various options. This design and reflection phase may take days, weeks or even months with pieces awaiting decisions regarding next steps. As one piece is standing by, she will be working on several other projects in different stages of completion. Jacque spends hours pondering how to use her signature acrylic painted papers, interesting substrates and unusual embellishments to create fine art that is unique, well balanced and beautiful. What emerges might be playful, serious or soulful.

Jacque hopes you delight in this evolving mixed media series she calls “Journeys of the Spirit.”
